What is Lupus? Is it a form of bursitis?Joints? |
What is Lupus? Is it a form of bursitis?Joints? Lupus comes in two forms..mild and aggressive. It is far more common in women than in men, is an autoimmune response, probably genetic in nature. Mild forms exhibit the Butterfly across the checks and forehead in women. Meds can suppress its effects. Those who have it often come down with it after a bad sunburn..so stay out of the sun! Men are more often effected with the aggressive form, and it is deadly..it attacks the kidneys, liver, pancreas, and brain...it is usually fatal in men. Basically, it is the opposite of AIDS...it is an overactive immune response to self! Your body destroys itself when it cannot distinguish between self and foriegn bodies. Lupus is a cousin to many retro-viruses. Symptoms vary widely, and diagnosis is usually made by eliminating all other possibilities. Simply put, it can effect people differently, although it is a disease that strikes women primarily. For many more details, go to www.lupus.org My good friend has lupus and it's hard to imagine how she finds the energy to get up in the morning. Like the other person answered ,her immune system is compromised and she always has pain in different degrees. She practically lives at her doctors office and you would not believe the barrage of tests this poor woman has to undergo. She has a very positive outlook on life considering what she goes through. We never heard of this when I was young. the same for fibromyalgia.we never heard of peanut allergies either .It really makes you wonder ! Its a very complicated set of diseases. You'd be advised to look it up on Google, since anything said here would be merely scratching the surface. Lupus is an autoimmune disease which can affect and effect almost every organ in the body. It is related to rheumatoid arthritis. Generally when you have Lupus you get a butterfly type rash on your cheeks. It can cause kidney problems as well as chronic pain. relative has lupus |
