I'm 15 and I have macular degeneration in my right eye?

One day I woke up and in my right eye in the very center of my vision its completely blurry and I can't even read with that eye or anything. My peripheral vision is normal in that eye though. I'm nearsighted so I don't know if that caused it or anything. When I have both eyes open I can't tell most of the time but I'm scared that I'm going to get macular degeneration in my other eye. What can I do to prevent that? If its not age related macular degeneration than what is it called?

:'(

That's really a question for the ophthalmologist who assessed your eye..

There are lots of different macular diseases, all relatively rare.

Some macular degerations are hereditary, so if this does appear in a young person with no good alternate explanation, checks will normally be done on the eyes of parents and close relatives to see if there are similar signs. Hereditary macular degeneration does tend to affect both eyes, in time.

But there are other possibilities, from a stray infection or haemorrhage (toxoplasmosis, for example) which need not affect the other eye at all...
...through to central serous retinopathy which can markedly affect the vision, but then almost totally recover over the course of a number of weeks.

Your doctor is the only one who will know exactly which condition you have.
