Any tips on a senior with Macular Degeneration..partial sight loss? Living tips etc?

My dad lives almost 6 hours away. He is slowly learning tips on how to survive with his funky eyesight problems caused by macular (dry) degeneration.

I'd love any tips on how to set up his home, groups he could talk to, tips on seeing better...whatever.

We call it "the blind place" when he did contact a local group. They gave him a watch that SAYS the time out loud and they are supposedly going to help him pay for a doctor that specializes in MD.

Also, he has lots of little issues. Like cooking. Or watching a movie. Is there a better contrast setting for MD as far as your tv goes?

Little things are helping. Like putting dots on the stove so he can tell what temp its on.

Any input would help.

My neighbor has only 5% vision left. He is 67 and is dealing with his failing eyesite wonderfully. He is the grounds keeper here on the land I live on..200 acres. He has a GIANT clock that he can still see. He lives in a small house with nothing to trip over. If your dad is slowly losing his vision..he might slowly be adapting to it more than you realize.

My neighbor cooks eveyday for himself. He is always working on something.

Like I said..he's been slowly losing his eyesite for the past 30years..It has not effected his quality of life
best wishes for your dad

take 'goji berries'
you can order dried goji berries online, or get them at some health food stores... trust me, get them... have him eat some everyday
