What are treatment options for a cat with macular degeneration?

I have searched the internet but haven't found anything specific to cats. Our cat was diagnosed by a Vet specializing in eye diseases. He said there is nothing we can do for our cat who is now virtually blind. Other than that our 12 year old neutered male domestic cat is doing surprisingly well.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you for your response. Our cat responds the same way i could swear he can see but we know he as very little vision left but he navigates using all his other senses I guess. My concern for him is going outside which he dearly loves to do but we rarely let him as he's still an adventurer.

There are limited and expensive treatments at this point for humans with macular degeneration and even less that can be done for cats. I would trust a vet that specializes in eye diseases to up on the latest in this area.

My old cat developed detached retinas late in life due to undiagnosed high blood pressure and my vet said she was totally blind but I always thought she might have partial vision because she handled the situation so well. We remodeled our house and she hung out all day with contractors and navigated though a construction area as though she could see. She was at least partially blind and went right on as if nothing had happened for several years. She was also quite deaf so it shows how resilient animals are.

good luck =)

If it works for people why not cats try vitamin therapy.
