Can Macular Degeneration Lead To Blindness?

My mother is ranting on about my cousin who has Macular Degeneration and thinks that he'll get blind any second (or at least in the future). And I'd like to know if it could lead to blindness or my mom is just panicking and going crazy.

Many older people develop Macular Degeneration as they get older. There are actually 2 types of macular degeration. They are often referred to as either wet or dry. Depending on the type of macular degeneration, will determine on how high the risk is for blindness. I would talk to a local optometrist or ophthalmologist for further information. Source(s): I have worked in ophthalmology for 9 years.
