Cure for Visual Macular Degeneration?

Is there any thing to cure the loose of vision from macular damage? I'm 72 years old. Is there any surgery aivalable? Blessings.

Treatment of macular degeneration has been disappointing to date. At best, most available treatments help to avoid further vision loss rather than improve vision. Lucentis (recently approved by FDA) is the only drug that has been shown to improve vision in the settings of a controlled clinical trial. Currently, there is no treatment that can 'cure' macular degeneration or reverse its course. There is hope however, that with all the research that is underway to define the disease process at a molecular and genetic level, future treatments will offer more promise.

At present, there are 2 main treatments available to slow the vision loss due to macular degeneration. The first is an attempt to slow the progression of macular degeneration by high dose vitamins (antioxidant + zinc supplements). The second treatment is the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) - the pathologic lesion of wet macular degeneration. FDA approved treatments for wet macular degeneration include laser (thermal or PDT) and drugs (macugen or lucentis).

Submacular surgery trials were conducted but the results showed that this surgery does not help macular degeneration patients. Source(s): http://www.agingeye.net/maculardegen/mac...

It really depends if it's the wet or dry type.
I've had a few people ask me about this at the last Nutrition Seminar we gave at our church. Rather than e-mail everyone, I simply made my Yahoo Briefcase available for those wanting to download the information. There's other health stuff there, as well (about free radicals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, synthetic vitamins vs whole food, etc.). http://briefcase.yahoo.com/apuzyr...

There is no cure for either dry or the wet type. There may be some ways to slow the progression like wearing blue blocker glassess, taking zinc, lutein and other carotenoids. I wish there was better news.
