I am perimenopause at almost 40. that means my body is getting ready for menopause?

my mother was 34 when she stopped her periods for good. My periods have been so irregluar for the first time for just over 2 years now and I was bleeding for 1 month which was not a period and this bleeding was everyday for 1 month. I have not had a normal period since the 8th of May this year. before 2006 I got them every month. I have gained so much weight too. My hormones are changing because my body is almost ready to go into menopause, what I want to ask is this. Is there any estrogen pills I can take? because my body is not producing much anymore. I also heard that after menopuse you have more chance of getting heart attacks etc is this true? Heart attacks are strong in my family. I hear you are not as well protected against these things when you stop your periods. I am worried becasue of dibetes in my family too etc. so I just want to ask when you stop your periods, and I am not far of this, will I be at more risk of a heart attack and health problems?

tasmin28 you do not know what you are talking about. you do not know my body I do.and 40 is not too young thank you it is around the age where your body is getting ready to stop the periods for good. plus my mother was 34 when she stoped hers. and get this everyone is diferent.

Continuous bleeding for one month may be viewed more seriously as it may soon lead to severe anemia and all its consequences. further various other important pathological conditions are to be excluded before concluding as a menopausal irregularity in such cases. Hence you may please consult your gynaecologist immediately for necessary examination and advice.

You are young for pre menopause/menopause, i think you should talk to your doctor about things you can take to help ease this transition for you.

its spelled pre-menopause and yes you could be

you could be, menopause has been known to start 20 years from you're first period although i think its around 40 (I'm only 18 so I'm not to sure) also i was classed as menopausal up until me getting pregnant so i know it can happen at any age. oh and my gran hit her 'age' at 35 - 37 so it can happen.
as for the hormones you could take an estrogen only pill but with you having a family history of heart problems i doubt you'll be given them, i can only have one type of contraceptive pill (which gives me migraines) because the same reason and they wouldn't help someone in you're situation.
