What are some common signs & symptoms of surgical induced menopause? |
I had a radical hysterecomy at age 31 because of cervical cancer. I am now experiencing mild depression and horrible mood swings. I have two babies and I am not patient with them like I should be. could I be experiencing menopause? During a 'total' hysterectomy you will have lost the ability to produce estrogen and progesteron, and it the natural dimishing of these hormones that control menopause. You should consult with your doctor. The mood swings may be indicative of something else, possibly clinical depression, but hopefully something mild and treatable. If it turns out that you are entering menopause, it's possible that the contraceptive pill may help with your symptoms, HRT may also prove useful. Good luck! Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hysterectom... If you have a HOT FLASH..that would be a sure sign of menopause...and believe me when you have a HOT FLASH, you will know it. Also, try exercising some patience and tolerance with those babies...what goes around comes around and one day they will be taking care of YOU. Heck yes...if they took out your ovaries, too, you are experiencing surgical menopause...like your hormones going from 60 to 0 in one fell swoop! I was homicidal/suicidal within one week of my surgery...thought I was going to do it naturally, without hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Now I am on Estrogen and Testosterone supplements and doing fine. Talk to you doctor about your treatment options ASAP...no reason to suffer. Talk to your doctor ASAP! They can per-scribe medication that helps! I had my ovaries and uterus removed because of endometriosis and went thru depression, mood swings, hot flashes. Medication is your friend. I am in my mid 30's. I had my radical hysterectomy when I was only 23. I never got the chance to have a baby, and I wanted to be a mother all my life, really bad. Back to the question, yes you are going through menopause, because of the hysterectomy. If you are like me and they took everything out during the surgery, you are automatically having menopause. I get hot-flashes, mood swings, and majorly depressed. I started having the hot flashes, right after I got out of the ICU, approximately 6 days after my surgery. I asked my doctor what was happening to me, and he explained to me that I was thrown into menopause, because of the hysterectomy. |
