At age 40, could moodiness be the beginning of menopause?

I cry when I have no reason, even when I think everything in my life is going well. I also get agitated easily. It is like really bad PMS. I never really had PMS that bad before though. My periods are also heavier than normal.

Is there a pattern to when the moodiness is worse? In other words, if it is more noticeable during certain times of the month, then I'd say it is likely perimenopause (the beginning of menopause). The best way to find out for sure is to get a hormone panel done (it can be either a blood test or a saliva test). Be sure you use a physician that is an advocate of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, because you want recommendations that are specific to your needs and not just a one-size-fits-all medication.
Potentially, but it could just be a reaction to stresses in your life.
it very well could be, it also could be hormones, there is a test that a gyn can do that lets you know on a number scale if you are pre-menopauseable. Talk to your gyn.
Sister dear we are what is termed ' peri-menopausal'. In lay terms, it's comming on slowly but surely. I've found that the use of Estrovent. The over the counter soy based capsule. Helps me alot. Seems to help me be my normal happy go lucky self. Also curbed the odditys in my cycle and flow. It's about $6. for a months supply, well worth it in my book. Try it!I started with those same mood swings about 41-42. Now at 45 I feel 22 still.
All of your symptoms are signs of Menopause. Just relax and realize that you can experience THE CHANGE. And just think...no more PMS!!!!!
