Are there any OTC medications that can be taken for menopause to help allivate the hot flashes and nite sweats

My doctor suggested a 1,000mg softgel of Evening Primrose Oil daily. It has helped me with both hot flashes and night sweats. Good luck.
I've never heard of anything other than HRT (hormone replacement therapy) to help with menopausal symptoms and I certainly don't recommend it. You could go into any GNC, vitamin store or health food store and see what they recommend.

Black Cohosh is one out of many.
I too went through this search and it was sooo confusing not to mention expensive so I abandoned the idea of getting through menopause with the help of medications and I merely adapted to it.
I had mostly night sweats though there were bouts of hot flashes.
I bought a small fan for work and I always had a cup of ice water which seemed to really help.
During the night I did one of two things. . .dressed in either nothing or something thin and was ready to get out of the covers when all else failed. . .having cold water at the bedside was a life saver as well as a cool wash rag.
I wasn't going to spend money on one product that didn't work only to have to go buy another to find it didn't work and so on and so on.
I didn't want to use nor did my Dr want me to use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) so I was stuck with just waiting it all out and suffering through it all.
Thank God it only last about 3yrs but once in a while I still get an ocassional hot flash and still have a few night sweats but all in all I think I have it beat.

Good Luck
Menopause is a stage in life when a woman stops having her monthly period. It is a normal part of aging, marking the end of a woman's reproductive years.Get enough calcium. A woman going through menopause needs 1000 mg to 1500 mg of calcium a day. Avoid excessive amounts of salt to reduce bloating associated with hormonal changes.
