What can I do to help ease hot flashes due to menopause?

"Exercise directly decreases hot flashes by decreasing the amount of circulating LH and FSH, by nourishing and tonifying the hypothalamus, and by raising endorphin levels (which plummet with hot flashing). As little as 20 minutes three times a week may reduce flashes significantly. Other natural measures that address underlying reasons for hot flashes include diet, nutritional supplementation and plant-based medicines."

A lot of women are using dong quai to help with symptoms. This can be purchased at health food stores, I think. Hope that helps.

I had breast cancer and could not take hormones, you might ask your Dr about them for you. I suffered for 2 yrs, hot, cold, fan, blankets, it is easing up now tho.

Soya milk can help, because it contains phyto-oestrogens, which mimic the effects of natural oestrogen which is what your body is lacking. Alternatively, you could try black cohosh or red clover, which you should be able to buy in a health food shop or larger pharmacy. Or you could see your doctor if you would consider something like HRT. If you don't want hormonal treatment but find that the alternative remedies aren't working, your doctor could prescribe something called clonidine which should help ease the hot flushes.
