Why do girls who start their periods earlier take longer to hit menopause? |
I'm not making this up, I heard of this in sex ed. It's a fact but it makes absolutely no evolutionary sense at all. I'm pretty sure its a variable and biology is a science that can't be determined by math (which is probably he came to that statistic) cause you can't go around living for centuries asking and observing as many girls as possible to see when they have their period and when they start menopause. First, because they'd call you a stalker, and second, you're not likely to live for a couple centuries. Its a plausible theory but can't really be proven, you would need a lot of girls to survey That is not true. In fact, females who start ovulating early generally go through menopause early. Your sex ed teacher is probably a coach and not a scientist. Im in my mid 30's and I began at 12 years old, women can still have babies well into their 40's, then the menopause takes years and years to get over and struggle though. I dont think girls are starting their periods younger at all, in victorian times girls often didnt start their periods until they were around 20, its all down to nutrition. Unless its hormonal in some rare cases where girls begin earlier. Remebering girls when I was 12 and growing up, and looking at todays girls talking to parent/studies etc, I really odnt think their is a difference. I even heard one 'new found scientific fact' that within 3 years of a girl beginning her period she stops growing - well I was still growing at 16. For most girls its 18 for guys they generally stop growing at 21. Girls get their growth spurt/burst at the beginning of adolescence - and boys at the end of it, which is often why a 13 year old girl can beat often up a 14 year old lad - no getting any ideas here girls. some have more supply of ovums. some people's hormones are just like that. it's all about the genes. menopause has an definite time periods, it occurs after 40 years of age provided that the ovulation is over. early ovulation does not means early menopause cos it depends upon the fertilization of the ova. |
