(*laughter*) This is called a "change of life baby", and unless you want to be 70 and sending your last child to college, use protection...heck use LAYERS of protection.

Menopause means it's done and over, and the woman hasn't had a cycle for a year (minimum), and that's not even 100% guarantee. Perimenopause is where a woman is tortured for 6-9 years before the real thing happens.

And yeah, you can get pregnant.
What do you mean "menopause is approaching?" It's either here, or it's not.

Yes, there is a chance of pregnancy. There have been cases of "late in life" pregnancies where mom thinks she's menopausal and then... SURPRISE... periods stopped for a different reason.

If there are any questions, pregnancy tests are a good thing.

It is possible to get pregnant any time you are ovulating. Therefore, unless you have been told that you are not ovulating by a doctor, I would assume you could get pregnant and take the appropriate precautions unless you desire a pregnancy.
Yes there is...just ask my friend who was entering menopause and had her first and only child at the age of 50
ABSOLUTELY! I am an obgyn nurse, and even 1-3 years after you've completely stopped getting your period you can. More and more women today are coming into our office complaining of cramps etc, in their late fourties early fifties...and guess what??? They're pregnant! Stray eggs can randomly be released and your period can be so light that you don't even know it. So...I would say about 95% clear after you stop getting your period the first year.
