If I had a hysterectomy at age 27 (now 48) will i still go through menopause? If they left your ovaries in, you will go through menopause as they wind down and quit releasing an ovum every month. If they took your ovaries when they did the hysterectomy, then you've already gone through menopause. Source(s): retired nurse Yes yes you can still go through menopause yet my sister had this happen to her It depends on the type of hysterectomy you had. With a total hysterectomy, the uterus, cervix, and one or both of the fallopian tubes are removed, and menopause begins immediately. With a partial hysterectomy, the tubes and/or cervix are left intact, and menopause will happen at it's own pace. The fallopian tubes are the controlling factors in menopause, because it is from here that the hormones/eggs are released. I'd say dig up your old medical records and find out which type of hysterectomy you had if you dont remember. Good luck! Oh yeah, with a vengeance! |
