Why do antipsychotics cause metabolic syndrome? |
People who suffer frpm psychotic illnesses have medicines which conrol their psychosis but put on varying amounts of weight. What is the cause fo this? Are you asking why drugs have side effects? Or why anti-psychotics have THAT particular side effect? They believe with the anti-psychotics causing weight gain, it's because of the affect they have on histamine and serotonin receptors. Not all anti-psychotics cause metabolic syndrome. Geodon & Abilify are classified as "weight neutral". |
