Avoiding migraines?

I just realized that I have migraines...And the last thing I want is something eating up my mind.
What can I do so I don't ever get them again?
Once I had them, will I always have them?
How do I know if my brain is ok?
I heard of MRI but I need to know if they hurt in any way?

An MRI doesn't hurt it is like an x-ray of the brain in a
machine. Many Dr,'s do this when you first get migraines I have had them for years and I know they suck. What I take now for preventative is Topomax at night and it works well. You are best to see a neurologist if you are having true migraines. I've been through it all meds and some make them worse over time and give you rebound headaches. I won't go to a Chiropractor myself but alot of people do. Dr.'s can also give list of food that can trigger migraines, as well as heat & cold & certain smells like strong perfumes get me bad.

depakote is supposed to help for migraines. my doctor prescribed it for me for migraines. i take it at night, and haven't had a migraine in 4 months.

previously, i'd been taking 2 asprin and a can of coca-cola as soon as i felt the first signs, and that DOES work, but only if you don't regularly drink caffeine.

good luck!

I know some people may knock it, but Research a Reputable Chiropractor. Make sure you see his degrees, etc..... and that he is licensed.

Get an adjustment, and keep getting regular ones..

Well if you know the symptoms before you get one. When you realize that you are going through those symptoms take a headache pill and have a full glass of water and take a nap... Other alternative get a stopper(strong migraine injection from a DOCTOR ONLY). If you want to get a stopper you have to get evaluated by a doctor first then he'll administer the stopper.

migraines suck.....you have to find out what causes it...for me...it was salty foods, pork and certain smells..you have to find out whats causing them...try to drink a coke when you feel it coming on....the thing about migraines you have to stop them when you feel them coming on.....also a cold pack to the head works...ahhhhhhh.....

I get horrible migraines with a swirly aura vision preceding it. I went to my doctor and he prescribed pills for me that i keep at the school nurse's and home. they really help. also my doctor said migraines are from blood vessels near your eyes that spasm FYI.

Various things cause migraines, including Splenda and NutraSweet. A more natural diet is usually helpful.

Inadequate sleep, consumption of smoke, and injections and cafeine can also trigger migraines.

migraines are a lot of times caused by high stress levels or if you aren't eating right. make sure that you're relaxed and getting the nutrients you need before jumping to conclusions.

Reduce stress, don't eat acidic foods or banana's (high potassium) or other trigger foods. You may get them throughout your life. You can get a cat scan or mri.
