What is the Difference between a Headache and a migraine?

How can u tell the differecne? what are the causes? Does it have anythign to do with that time ot the month for a girl? What are the teatments?

I have lots of experience with migraines and there is a HUGE difference between them and headaches!
Migraines last anywhere from 2-4 hours to 2-4 days, and even prescription drugs won't always help( unless they knock you out : o )

Sometimes I do get migraines a little worse during period time, but not always. And light is excruciating during migraines, staring at a computer a long time can also trigger one.

Hope I helped!!!

the spelling

when you bump you knee and get an uncomfortable bruise thats a headache. when you shatter your kneecap thats a migraine.

I would take a regular headache any day to a migraine. With a migraine you can be light sensitive, noise of any kind can make you want to crawl in a hole and you can have an upset stomach. The pain can be totally unbearable.
I used to get migraines one week prior to my monthly and I could have them on and off until my period started.
The only over the counter meds that I have found that even touch my migraines is Excederine Tension it doesn't take them away but it dulls the pain somewhat. There is perscription meds that work.
The best thing to do is to go to your Dr. and talk to him.

You usually get headache for about an hour. and it isnt that strong. migraine is a lot stronger. some people pass out from it. it hurts really bad. and it usually is about 3 hours or more.

I have chronic migraines that are severe to debilitating. ( I cannot function normally when I have them) I have had a headache, I take tylenol and it goes away. My migraines I take prescription medicine including loritab, oxycontin and various other drugs PRESCRIBED to me. They still last up to 2 weeks. I even have had to go to the er and have iv meds they give to women in childbirth.
