Does heat or ice help a migraine? |
Does heat or ice help a migraine? You DON'T want heat, as this causes your blood vessels to swell, meaning more blood would be circulating where the headache is and that rushing/pounding sound in your ears would get worse. Ice should help dull the pain a little bit. My mom takes Imitrex (only available by RX) for her migraines. If yours' is heat constitution ice and for cold constitution heat will help you. I've found neither to help. They make it worse for me. Ice at the location of pain for about 15 min every hour. No longer than that. Heat on your neck for the same amount of time but ice is better there as well. Lay in a dark quiet room. My mother uses ice, daughter and I have....it helps to constrict the blood vessels in the head. Total darkness usually helps... A heating pad usually helps mine. |
