How to get rid of migraines???

I get these migraines every once in a while. I'm such a hypocondriac! I can't go anywhere or do anything exciting without worrying that I'll get a migraine! weddings, fieldtrips, movie theatres, anything!!! How can I stop worrying about getting migraines and how can I get rid of them once I do get them??? any good medicines???

Of course, you can ask your doctor for Imitrex. You can get it in pill form or even a shot so that if you know you're getting ready to have a migraine you can give yourself the shot and it will zap the headache quickly.

I have suffered from migraines since junior high and I'm 56, although I had a very long stretch of no headaches after high school and actually until I started through menopause...which leads me to believe that migraines are definitely related to hormones.

If you are young, I'd say if you charted your periods that you would find a pattern. You may have a higher incidence of a migraine right after your period, or before, or during ovulation. Everyone is different.

These are a few things I have done that work.

*I take Vitamin B2, B6, and B12, and magnesium. Anyone who has migraines should do this. Not sure why, although I know that the B vitamins help with stress, and doctors say that migraine sufferers usually have low magnesium levels. I use Vitamin B complex liquid drops that you can find at any drug store, WalMart, etc. You put them under your tongue, hold it there for 30 seconds, and swallow. Seems that B12 gets into your system better that way. Magnesium I get in my daily vitamin.

*Many foods trigger migraines. For me, it's strong cheese and dry, red wines. I just try to steer clear of those foods that I have found trigger mine.

*My migraines often come AFTER a period of stress....like AFTER Christmas, AFTER a wedding, AFTER a big project at work. Not much you can do about that, but at least be on guard at that time and have the Imitrex ready!

*If you find that maybe yours are triggered by hormones and follow a pattern for you, ask your gynecologist about a hormone test, even if you are young. You may be lacking in progesterene or estrogen and you can safely take these hormones to help.

*Take a baby aspirin each day. For some reason, doctors say that migraine sufferers have "sticky blood" and that's what causes the headaches. Our blood vessels constrict in some way and causes the trauma that creates the headache.

*You mentioned movie theaters. I have a friend that says bright lights trigger her migraines. Even snow on the ground with the sun shining. You may need to limit your exposure to a huge screen with brightly pulsating lights in a movie because they can trigger a migraine.

Good luck! I know how frustrating it is.

A merry heart is like a medicine. I'm not sure how much laghing would help headackes but it is good for you.

You should see a doctor and get medicine.
