Is migraines an early pregnancy symptom?

I was at work this morning and all of a sudden I got this really bad migraine. I have never had one before. I work at a clinic and a doctor there gave me this diagnosis. I was wondering if this could be connected to a pregnancy symptom. My period is due in about 1 week. Thanks.

It could be. A surge in hormones can definitely give some women migranes. I would wait the week to test though to be sure.

It was always a symptom for me! During all 4 of my pregnancies I had to use narcotics for them (Tylenol w/ codeine, Percocet, etc.). It was awful. They did let up a bit as I got closer to my 2nd trimester though, and they were few and far between by the end of my pregnancies.

The only thing that helped me (besides the drugs of course! LOL) was just finding a cool, dark room to lay down in, putting a pillow over my head, and going to sleep. Sometimes a cup of coffee helped a bit, although for some people that can actually trigger them. Caffeine (you may already know) is one of the ingredients in Excedrin Migraine. I couldn't take that while pregnant though, since it also contains aspirin.

Edit: Like the lady below me mentioned, it's the surge in hormones that does it for a lot of women. My doctor said that was the reason I had the worst one ever right after my m/c, since the hormone levels drop so fast in that situation.

I got them a lot more frequently in early pregnancy during each of my 3 then any other time in my life.
