Migraines with Aura, Blood Clots and Birth Control?

I have been diagnosed with migraine with aura for about 2 years now, and recently began looking to start birth control. I was on the shot (depo provera) for 7 months, and HATED it. So I talked to my dr. about a birth control pill which she reluctantly put me on. She explained to me that because I have migraine with aura, (5 out of 7 days of the week) that the estrogen in the pill was very dangerous for me and could cause stroke and blood clots. What I'm wondering is this; is the estrogen what causes the bloods clots, and not the progesterone? If so would it be safe to go on a progesterone only bc pill? Anyone with any experience or knowledge about this please help me out! My neurologist has not called me back and I need to make a decision within the next few days! Thanks!

You need to do a lot more investigation before you take this step. If the pill is going to dramatically increase your risks due to your pre-existing health conditions, why would you want to do this? You need to consult several experts before taking this step.

I wouldn't make any decisions based on information received just here. Talk with a healthcare professional before any decision is made. You need to weigh all the odds first. maybe there is another form of birth control that would be better suited for a person in your situation. Do your homework first and check out this site:
