Migraines/Headaches?

I have been diagnosed with migraneous headaches (or something similar). The pain isn't as obvious as a migraine, but is more than an everyday headache. I was prescribed with "Migraleve" and it does nothing to get rid of the pain. I was prescribed on Friday, it is now monday and i've used 3/4 of the medication. The doctor doesnt realise how frequent they are. I constantly feel lethargic.. Eventhough i'm getting 10 hours a night - because i've left school, after exams?

Does anyone know any specific medication i can take that will get rid of the pain?

Thanks x

I get migraines too, here are some things i've found which work well.. Basically anything with codeine. They might have different trade names where you live, but the active ingredients should be the same:
Panadeine: 8mg codeine, 500mg paracetamol (over the counter in pharmacies)
Nurofen plus: 12.5mg codeine, 200mg ibuprofen (over the counter in pharmacies)
Panadeine forte: 30mg codeine, 500mg paracetamol (Prescription only- these will get rid of just about ANY pain!)

I suffer from Migraines and the BEST Medicine I use is ESGIC PLUS Rx! Esgic-Plus is available Online at BuyMedicationRx.Com. http://buymedicationrx.com/esg... .They Ship EsgicPlus Rx Overnight Via Fedex! Order Esgic Plus and get a FREE Rx! Report Abuse

I'm not sure about medications, but it sounds like you might have fibromyalgia - constant pain experienced mostly throughout the body, but can be concentrated in one area. I have been self-diagnosed =] with fibromyalgia and I have the exact same problem as you. My doctor told me it was just migraines, too, but it's a constant headache, all day every day, and I have a friend who actually was diagnosed with fm and has this same problem. I'm looking into getting medicine for this, so maybe ask your doctor about fibromyalgia.

Hope you feel better and good luck

Hi, I too get bad migraines/headaches. There is a medication you can take that can help prevent these headaches occuring. It's called Pizotifen (pronounced piz-ot-e-fen). I take 1.5 mg every night and I've only had 2 migraines - that actually were better than normal for me - since taking it a month ago, I was getting 4/5 migraines a week prior to this. Ask your gp about it, it's really helped me.

See a headache specialist. Start a daily log of headache, sleep and foods. When you meet with the doctor make sure that he has listened to all your symptoms and observations. And make sure that you listen carefully to the advise and instructions given.

If you are not in pain, go for a walk or exercise in some way. And be sure to drink a lot of water.

Before you go - read, read, read about headaches and treatments.

Good luck.

I also suffer from migraine, i take one Pizotifen every night and one Naratriptan whenever i get a migraine, but you are only allowed one per episode, so if your migraine goes and them comes back you cant take another one. I would go back to the doctor and explain how often you get them, i was referred to a neurologist and had tests done before i was "diagnosed" with migraines

I would suggest going back to your doctor and explain fully to him/her how your headaces are affecting you. I suffer with migraines which knock me out for 3 or 4 days. I would be very reluctant to suggest alternative medication because of your age. There may be a number of reasons for your headaches including lack of water. Diet does play a big part where continuous headaches occur.

I don't have a medicine answer, but i know the pain. I go threw the same thing and its been as long as I can remember I live every day with a headache - bad ones. I also have the same problem with doctors I cant get them to give me anything to make them go away. please if you learn any more about this please email me. thx

try ibreprohen(i dont't know how to spell it) take a high dosage of it but it works alot also rest and sleep alot ,and drink fluids plus some food but it really does work but it has to be scribed i got it from the hospital IT REALLY WORKS

Yes get sumitriptan - this is specifically for migranine.

ergotamine

you can also have a comibation drug such as doxylamine succinate, paracetamol and codeine.

You may be sleeping too much. Try 2 excedrin and a big coffee.
Try going to a Neurologist for help.

i use syndol, for tension headaches. i swear by them but dont know if they be effective on migranes

I know some people get Chronic Daily Headaches as they are called which can be quite severe and debilitating.

It would probably help to see a neurologist. You might be getting too much sleep unless you need 10 hours of sleep to feel refeshed. Some people do but most people need less than that. Sometimes sleeping too much can cause fatigue and increase headache as well.

It will help to see a neurologist because they can put you on longeracting pain medication and prophalactic treatment.

for instance, I take antiseiuzre medication which is often used to help people with chronic daily headache. I take topomax every day and it helps to prvent the migraine. Some people take Deprakote or Proporonol a blood pressure pill that is also used for migraines. Than at times they will add other medication like midrin, immitrex for the severe flares, and others sometimes will give you some sort of pain medication to try and help bring pain relief. I also take excedrin migraine but i wouldnt think thats good to take every single day... you need drugs you can take on a daily basis to manage the pain so its a good idea to see a neurologist about that.

Also I have had injections into my neck and they were going to do botox too to stop the nerves from firing which can bring a lot of major releif to migraines too. If the first line of treatments dont help from the neurologist they can send you to a pain clinic and they will likely ttry stuff like that. I have also used a TENS unit which is a little electrical stim unt with little patches you put along the areas that are causing the pain and it sends electical pulses whoch dont hurt and can sometimes help close the pain gaits... non drug treatment and helps a lot of people.

Anyways, try to see a neurologist and they will work on getting you on, i can almost bet something like topomax and something else to help the daily pain as well as prevention. Hopefully that will work.

I have a friend that got chronic daily migraine headaches and happened to be put on Deprakote (an antiseizure med) for her bipolar illness and it took her migraines away. If she misses it, they come back fast but as long as she is on it. she rarely gets them so there is hope!.
