Why are women more susceptible to migraines than men?

Why are women more susceptible to migraines than men?

Women on average get more migraines than men (three out of four migraines are suffered by a woman) for a number of reasons, namely:

- They have a strong link to their menstrual cycles, apparently "just before the cycle begins, levels of the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, sharply go down. This drop in hormones may trigger a migraine, because estrogen controls chemicals in the brain that affect a woman鈥檚 pain sensation."

- Birth control pills are also often a cause, though for some, they actually improve migraines.

- Large stresses, such as, getting married, moving to a new home, or having a baby

- Small daily stresses, caused by women's many roles, such as being a mother and wife, having a career, and financial pressures, can be daily stresses for women.

- Apparently there is also a connection to magnesium deficiency, which is more common in women, as they lose magnesium through the process of menstruation.

But, in conclusion, I would say that women suffer from migraines more frequently than men primarily due to hormonal fluctuations, brought on by both the pill, and their menstrual cycles.

xxxxxxx lame...

Because they like the sound of their own voice more than men do, it unconciously irritates their own brains.

i guess its hormonal.
men are more susceptible to stress headaches than women.

mainly hormones, and women stress about things much more than men usually.

Because women think alot more than men lol
and whats PMT got to do with it ????

probably because of PMT.

Because they don't feel like having sex with me.

Because they won't shutup

I believe with a lot of them it is for convenience. codger
