Why do some foods seem to give you a headache or migraine? What causes this please.?

I have this problem. It's an allergic reaction but instead of hives or not being able to breath you get horrible headaches. I was diagnosed at the age of 7 and I am 24 now and have learned to deal with it. When I was younger I was on medications and had a list of food that I couldnt eat that was longer than the list of food that I could eat. Ive learned to stay away from certain foods and have figured out over the years how much I can have before it gives me a headache.

Processed foods, chocolate, caffine, milk (with some people), anything with msg cause these headaches. There are other foods that do cause these headaches and sometimes it is dependent on the actual person how bad the reaction is. The more you eat these foods the worse your reaction is going to get to the point of you may eventually breakout in hives or worse. I would go see a DR and explain to them that you are having food related headaches and they can give you a number of options to make things a little better!

certain foods, especially those that contain a chemical called tyramine can trigger migraines in susceptible individuals. This does not mean that every migraine sufferer is sensitive to tyramine-rich foods.
Common offenders include alcohol, especially beer and red wine; aged cheeses; chocolate; fermented, pickled or marinated foods; aspartame; caffeine; monosodium glutamate 鈥?a key ingredient in some Asian foods; certain seasonings; and many canned and processed foods. Skipping meals or fasting also can trigger migraines.
