Migraine after songs?

I've been singing for years now and i never had this problem before.. but lately whenever i put more power into my singing for high notes i get headaches..
my eyeballs hurt and if i try to sing again.. well they get worse.

mostly i play for other people now since i cant sing more than three songs a day..

I never had a professional teach me since i've been singing since a kid but now i'm starting to get worried

does anybody know what's the matter with me?

I do have problems with my eyes and too much light get me a migraine but i'm wondering how that involves my singing?
err.. i've got iron deficiency if that helps..

but i dont think its anything to do with it.

anyway... anyone?

maybe i'm singing the wrong way..

It could be your technique.

If you're pushing too much air in your throat to make a huge sound, then you're straining your throat. To make a huge sound yoiu need to push the air from your stomach out. Don't push the air out with your chest or throat.

Remember to keep your tongue and jaw relaxed. If your body is relaxed then you'll have better tone and pitch as well.

As for how long it will take before this goes away, that all depends on how much rest you get. Rest your voice - don't yell or raise it at all. In maybe a week (but don't hold me to that), if you're practicing proper form when singing, you should be back on the ball.

I hope I've helped and good luck! ^.^

If you get a headache when you sing highnotes, then it is a good thing. it means that you are using your headvoice, You might also feel dizzy which is also good when you are singing. To help you sing longer, try to warmup your voice thereby allowing you to get less headaches and it will make you have more stamina. Remember, the voice should be treated with the same care and training of an athlete. Also do breathing exercises.

I've noticed a similar thing, and experimented with different amounts of stress on the voice. I can get migraine-like symptoms even with just humming a series of exercises for more than an hour or so,

I suspect it's either the vibrations causing an inflammatory response in the veins in the brain, or the effect of the muscles in the throat affecting circulation to the brain, acting as a trigger.

Because it's a physical cause for a migraine though, it's definitely something worth asking your doctor about it, just to check it isn't anything more serious, and to help understand the nature of your migraine, and choose appropriate medication.

Try and keep a diary for a week before you see them though, and precisely record the effects and timing of the migraine, and how it coincides with singing / eating or any other potential trigger. Print and give them a copy as well.

These can be things like, location of pain/ cramp (e.g. behind the eyes, temple, top of head etc. ) and other effects like, dilation of the pupils, balance, memory, visual focus and thought processes.

I sympathise a lot, 'cos like you, I love singing, but have to balance the consequences with the enjoyment of doing it,

Most days I have a migraine to some degree or other, but get to sing :)

All the best to you,
