How to cure a kid's migraine pain? |
My almost 8 year old daughter suffers from migraine every now and then. Especially when she's stressed. Besides oral medication, are there any home remedies to cure it? She would cry nonstop and it breaks my heart :( Take her to see a pediatric neurologist ASAP! Migraines in little kids are unusual, and should never be ignored. They can point to something much more severe going on for her. If she is diagnosed with migraines by the neurologist, the neurologist can provide medication to help stop the migraine, even after the migraine been going on for several hours. Especially in the summertime, insufficient water intake can cause a really severe headache in the back of the head. It's not a migraine, but it hurts almost as badly as a migraine. And in any case, as someone else pointed out, she should be drinking a lot of water to help flush her system and to avoid dehydration. Little kids seem to get dehydrated much more quickly than adults do and don't understand that they aren't drinking enough water. Gatorade is also good because it has electrolytes to help control the fluids, salt to help retain a bit of fluid, and sugar to help with the energy. But you really can't beat just drinking enough water. I understand that pain. Migraines in children are unusual, and almost always they are associated with pressure on one of the suboccipital nerves. Those are the nerves that run along the back part of the skull. Sometimes the occipital bone of the skull, or one of the top two vertebra in the spine, can be misaligned to cause such pressure. I would definitely have her checked by a chiropractor who specializes in pediatric care to see if this could be what is going on. You can find one here: http://www.icpa4kids.org/locator/index.p... Lay her down in a pitch dark room with a cool compress and let her sleep it off. She needs to be completely still and sleep. Maybe some Children's Tylenol to put her to sleep. Rubbing her feet also can help, especially the webs. But the dark room is about the best cure and keep the room as cool as possible too and as comfortable as possible. Just rub her feet and be with her. i had really bad migraines when i was little...my mom used to grab my hair and kind of squeeze it to massage my head....or she'd rub my temples with her fingers until i fell asleep...and i used to stay up and cry all the time when i had them...i just learned to not look at light when i had them or listen to anything loud...but it's all about sleeping it off and massaging the head =) hope that helps... max-alt is great migraine relief for kids its non narcotic. also gatorade usually stops the beginning of a headache. make sure she is getting enough fluids. Have you had her eyes checked lately, known cause for small children getting headaches and migraines. Have her relax in a dim lit room, and a cool wash cloth over her eyes this helps when I get them. I've heard that having them breath in and out of a bag can help as well. Never tried it but I've heard it works. |
