Migraine, siezure, or worse? What does a visual aura mean? |
Back in November (Thanksgiving Day to be exact) I experienced a very frightening visual disturbance. It started as zigzagging lines in my field of vision that formed a backwards "C" shape. The lines shimmered and flashed making it very difficult to see until I eventually lost all peripheral vision in my right eye. The whole episode lasted about 10 minutes. After some online research I believe I may have experienced a visual aura like that which some people experience before a migraine, only I never suffered a headache. I heard that auras can also precede seizures. I am worried what will happen if I begin to get an aura while driving. Do you think I should talk to my doctor about the episode or am I just making a big deal out of something I've only experienced once? They are really weird but you will be fine driving. the doctors will give you a medicine to take as soon as the Aura starts and it will go away. Your face and tongue can also go numb from them and you get sick as hell. I've had those visual aura thingys, too. Disturbing, aren't they? When I questioned my eye doc about it, she didn't seem too concerned. I used to get them almost daily. Eventually I had cataract surgery and now I don't get them as often. Go figure! They don't give me headaches, just get in my way of seeing properly. Never had a seizure, either, so I just put up with it. |
