What is the best way to get rid of migraines and headaches? I need more than just pain pills!?

Sometimes pills don't work for me and it has been interfering with my work. It seems like the only thing that works is sleeping it off and sometimes that doesn't even help. I've tried to write down a diary of foods I eat that might trigger headaches and I can't find any that do. Also I get them really bad in the summer. The heat really makes them bad. They are getting to the point where I throw up all the time unless I sleep it off. Lately pills haven't been working. PLEASE help! Thanks!

This is what I do when I get a migraine, which I have been getting since I was a little kid. I take my migraine medication, lay down in a very cool room (kick down the AC if you have to for a few hours) with a cold wet wash cloth over my eyes, an ice pack on the back of my neck, and shooting range rated ear plugs in my ears to block out all sound. I also turn on a ceiling fan to feel the cool air move over my body. Then, once the ear plugs are in, start to focus on your heartbeat and count them. This will help distract you from the pain a little so that you can fall asleep. You need to make sure that you can be in a comfortable position and get relaxed. This, I have found, is the key to getting the migraine to release.

I know they suck and it took a lot of migraine meds before i found one that usually works for me (Maxalt-MLT). I also take a preventative medication called Amitriptyline each night before bed. It is technically a tri-cyclic antidepressant, but studies have found it to be very beneficial in reducing the frequency and severity of migraine headaches. You may want to talk to your doctor about it, or another preventative med. Be forewarned about Topamax though. It does work to prevent the migraines, but it is also referred to in the medical field as "dopamax" because people have short term memory issues, problems finding correct words, and have a hard time keeping a straight thought! I took it and had all of these problems, which is why I came off it and started on what I take now. It is also very hard to taper off, and can cause some really bad withdrawal symptoms if stopped suddenly or too quickly. Good luck.

I had really bad migraines when I was younger and like you sleep was always the only cure. There are some very strong relief drugs out there specifically for migraines. Imigran is one though I think it is very expensive even with med. insurance. Theymay work, though they do not work for everyone. Prevention is the best path to follow. I was put on a type of antidepressant for a few months that cured my migraines completely. You should speak to your doctor about getting some sort of help since the average painkiller out there is for a headache, not a migraine.

You might need to see a homeopathic healer. It sounds like you are having a strange kind of problem. It could be a stress related problem or allergies. Have you ask your Dr. for any recommendations for the management of your migraines? Check your area for homeopathic healers and also ask your Dr. if this could be an allergy related problem.

I've had intense migranies almost everyday for a couple years now. You probably want to go see a doctor. You should also try to avoid caffeine or smoke which can often trigger headaches.

I do not know about pain pills for a headache but esgic or fioricet works some times for me ,I order from this place
they do not sell anything heavy duty though
