Is there a way to get rid of Migraines without medication? |
You see Im 36 weeks pregnant, and I have severe migraine headaches. I cant take anything other than Regular Tylenol to get rid of them. Does anybody know how I can get rid of migraine without using meds? I feel for you! Migraines are awful even when you can take medications and worse when you can't! You can try changing the blood flow by constricting or enlarging the veins in your head. Try hot or cold compresses. Heat worked well for me along with lying down and trying to sleep. Massaging pressure points may also afford you some relief. Other than that, speak with your physician. Mine prescribed pain medication for me which was deemed safe during pregnancy but I opted not to take it and deal with the migraines. Good luck and congratulations! Source(s): 15+ years in medicine; 9 in orthopedics / pain management. Mother of three: 6 months, 6 and 11 years. I have had migraines for years, You need to find out what your triggers are and try to avoid them, stress, lack of sleep, certain foods, perfume, one of mine is the use of break cleaner around me. Mine started when I was pregnant talk to your Dr. see a chiropractor I would suggest having someone give you a neck and shoulder massage, you can try the Headon topical stuff that you can get over the counter, either a warm pad or cool cloth over your eyes and forehead, even the back of your neck, a quiet dark room... those might help... there are herbal teas that claim to help with headaches. You can go to a health food store and talk with someone there. Those are a few suggestions. The other is to talk with your doctor and see what he/she suggests. if anyone knows I'd like the answer too! Apparently some people use oxygen therapy, meditation, mild exercise, avoiding triggers as already mentioned, that's about all I can think of. I have a few suggestions, but with migraines they have about a 50/50 chance of working. I think it would be worth trying anyway. A great method of hydrotherapy to help migraines is to apply ice to the neck area and heat to the extremities. So you may want to put an ice pack around your neck (and maybe on top of the head) and your feet in a very warm foot bath. This draws excess blood away from the head (causes the migraine) and down into the body. If a headache is in progress it will usually help ease it some. If it's just starting it can stop the headache in its tracks. Two other things to try are massage therapy and cranial sacral therapy. Please take note that if you have a true migraine the hydrotherapy method I described is true. If it's actually a headache caused from muscle tension that is just causing you to feel nauseated like a migraine then you need to do the opposite - heat to the neck and cold to the extremities. Make sure you know which type of headache you have. Good luck to you and congrats on becoming a mom! |
