Anybody with multiple sclerosis and took predisone im confused about this medication?

okay im a 18 year old male with multiple sclerosis and was wondering if you or someone had take the steroid drug predisone?WELL I was wondering if your stomach got big and bloated because mine did and its horriable because im a thin guy and my stomach had abs and stuff now i look sooo puffy its ridiculous....anyway how did you deal with it and how long does it stay big?

I have MS as well and just recently completed my second round of these lovely steroid treatments (3 days each). I did not experience this extreme bloating/swelling - but it is not completely uncommon. You stated that you are a pretty skinny guy. The drug can cause you to retain a lot of water which is likely where your bloating is coming from. In the mean time, rest assured - while it is uncomfortable - it will go away. It does take quite a while for your body to readjust after the treatment is completed & you'll be increasing your trips to the restroom soon to release all that stored water.

However - that being said - you should still talk to the prescribing doctor about it if you are concerned.

I also have MS and used prednisone many times. The gal Kristie that posted above me gave you a great description. You also may have more acne, be extremely irritable, have what they call a moon face. Rest assured it usually goes away as you wean off of the med. Call your doc if you get really concerned or start having heart pains. MS is a sucky disease to have. Take one day at a time and try and get on one of the MS drugs right away. I waited 10 years and believe I would be in much better condition had i started right away. Now I use Tysabri and it is great stuff. Good Luck.

my daughter is on prednisone right now because of her asthma.
i didn't notice if her stomach was puffy but the steroid does make you gain weight.

I took prednisone once (fellow MSer since October 2001) and did not have that problem.
