What are the chances of me having Multiple Sclerosis if my mom has it?

What are the chances of me having Multiple Sclerosis if my mom has it?

Well, the "official" answer is that your chances are 3% higher than the general population.

My mom has MS, as do I. I have two daughters, and I of course worry about them getting it as well. The thing is that at this point, without knowing the real cause of it, you can'r worry yourself sick over it... it is either going to happen or not. Try to have a good outlook on life, and realize that if you get MS is just a part of your life, it isnt your life. My mom has been a great example of that for me, and I'd bet yours has been too.

There have been studies that show that low Vitamin D levels can somehow make it more likely for MS to develop, so it is good to be sure that your levels in your blood are good, or just take a supplement. My Vitamin D was vrey low (9) so I take a supplement of 50,000IU/week. 1000-2000IU daily is what my neurologist recommended my brother take (who does not have MS) just to take that out of the equation.

Be sure to talk to your mom about your concerns, and maybe go with her to her neurologist appts with her and talk to her doctor as well.
