Can multiple sclerosis cause chronic pain? |
Can multiple sclerosis cause chronic pain? Oh, yes - since it's a disease that affects the nerves, the pain can be quite intense. Absolutely. http://www.nationalmssociety.org/sourceb... I have MS and even though I can walk with no problems, I am in constant pain if I don't take anything for it. I take 2 Aleve twice a day and that really helps. When I was first diagnosed, I had no problems with pain, but after almost a year, I started having more and more pain in one or both legs. I rest alot, and take pain medication, anti-anxiety medication and an anti-depressant. Sometimes the pain is in my muscles and sometimes my joints or all over. Some days are better than others. I try to keep active, Ive been in the hospital for IV steroid treatment once for a week and had been prescribed oral steroids a few times for different relapses. I appreciate being able to drive and walk through the grocery store when I'm not having a relapse. I am also taking Copaxone injections daily and doing well with those. I was just diagnosed April 2006. But stress and heat really affect my symptoms. So now I stay out of the heat and try to not stress out. (there comes in the anti-anxiety pills!) I had to leave my crazy husband since arguing didn't help at all. Doing pretty well right now! Yeah! |
