What is the difference between guillain-barre syndrome and multiple sclerosis?

Apologies about the confusing answers so far.

Guillain-Barr猫 syndrome and MS are very similar. Both are autoimmune diseases. Both involve the body's immune system attacking the myelin sheath surrounding nerve cells. And in both conditions, scientists do not know the exact cause.

The big differences are that Guillain-Barr猫 syndrome attacks the Peripheral Nervous System, while MS attacks the Central Nervous system. As such, since the PNS regenerates, most people fully recover from Guillain-Barr猫. The recovery period may be as little as a few weeks or as long as a few years. About 30 percent of those with Guillain-Barr茅 still have a residual weakness after 3 years. About 3 percent may suffer a relapse of muscle weakness and tingling sensations many years after the initial attack. Since the CNS does not regenerate, MS offers no hope of recovery. Guillain-Barr猫 syndrome is an autoimmune condition in which the person鈥檚 nerves are attacked by the body鈥檚 own immune defence system. As a result of the attack, the nerve insulation (myelin) and sometimes even the inner covered part of the nerve (axon) is damaged and signals are delayed or otherwise changed - this causes a spreading paralysis.

Multiple Sclerosis (abbreviated MS, also known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata) is a chronic, inflammatory disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS). MS can cause a variety of symptoms, including changes in sensation, visual problems, muscle weakness, depression, difficulties with coordination and speech, severe fatigue, cognitive impairment, problems with balance, over heating, and pain. MS will cause impaired mobility and disability in more severe cases.

Multiple sclerosis affects neurons, the cells of the brain and spinal cord that carry information, create thought and perception, and allow the brain to control the body.
Guillain Barre is caused by a virus (possibly Herpes?) and has similar symptoms as MS. MS is the demyelineation of the myelin sheath which acts like an insulation around the axon. When it breaks down, the body gets wrong signals causing many different symptoms depending on what part of the brain is being affected.
Simple answer Guillian Barre is a disease with a known begining and end.
MS the medical professionals do not know when it starts and it gradually progesses and worsens over many years. It can not be 'stopped' . I have MS. Willl till the day i die. My husband had Guillian Barre several years ago. It ended we said bye to it.
