What help can i get as single mum with multiple sclerosis?

For meds, call the company, they have programs you might qualify for.

good luck.
Did you try the medicine BetaFeron or Beta InterFeron by Schering? It is effective to certain people.

Multiple Sclerosis comes in 3 forms, benign MS, relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and secondary progressive MS.

If you have the benign or relapsing-remitting form of the diease, then it is good to try use the medicine. This will invariably slow the diease progress.

You should still try to use the medicine if you have the secondary progressive of the diease. But for these people, taking the medication at a later stage will not be effective.

The problem with the medication is the cost. A box costs easily US$500 and it will last you only one month. Then you got to buy another box.

Try to get some welfare to sponser ou for this treatment. Perhaps seek help from the church. It is important because if left untreated, you may be paralysed eventually.

Do it now.

are you in the uk? if so you have the legal right to be assessed by social services. they can provide homehelps, carers, cleaners etc. also how old are your kids, you could probably get them free places in nursery or assitance getting them to school. you need to get in touch with social services and ask to have a social worker assigned to you and see your gp as his input will be vital. dont let them fob you off, my mum has m.s and has a full care package, carers in 4 times a day, cleaners and a carer to take her out and do her shopping. the best of luck to you

It's a big question and big disease- some have terrible symptoms and some have none.

Your best, and first, resource would be he national Multiple sclerosis scoiety. There are medicationds to modify the isease ans medications to help symptoms.

Good luck!

more questions? just ask!
It is difficult from your question to determine where you are or if you have any level of disability at this stage. I am answering this question as though you are in the UK. You should go to social services and see if you are eligible for any help especially related to child care or even time out for yourself so you can regain some energy. Especially if you are experiencing fatigue.
Also make sure you are on the right benefits if you are not working. These may included Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity Benefit
Keep your support networks close. If you have relapsing then you want to know who to turn to if you need urgent childcare due to a relapse.
There are a lot of resources at the MS society (UK) for children who have a parent with MS. There is a really nice guide "My mum has MS" which is written by a mother and their child so is easily understood by reading age children

Might be worth getting a occupational therapy assessment to look activities you are carrying out if you are experiencing any symptoms. Such things as fatigue, memory, decreased hand function or decreased balance they may be able to give you practical measures to help you care for yourself and you child. If you are working they could help with advice for this. Make sure they have experience in MS.
Also it is worth trying to get a referral to an MS specialist nurse. They are very good at giving practical information and also knowing what is in your area to help you access.
Sometimes getting into a local MS support group can be really helpful. More from getting information from other memebers on practical ideas or what is in your area.

I hope this helps. You are dealing with a difficult condition, but you have to control it rather than letting it control you. Best of luck
