Cat Nutrition and Health: Raw Feeders...?

I was on here half hour ago and was asking about if Kidney Disease and Kidney Problems Naturally occur in some breeds of cats. Which they claim it does!
If you are afraid your cat could develp kidney prob. in the future why not try to wart if off early by feeding it a diet for kidney problems. I do not understand this. ???
Why would this be such a bad idea? I would just be trying to help the future health of my cat.
Yes, raw is high in Protein naturally, correct.
There are by the way- Kidney diets out there, I do Not know if they are raw diets thou. ???
Bad Idea then??? I'm Realllllly Confused.

Yes very very bad idea. What cat lady meant by there being no fooods for bad kidneys is that they are low proteiun diets that are meant to ease the kidneys work but not help repair anything. Those are horrioble diets for cats as cats need protein and those diets are low protein, very poor quality.
Most people feed dry food which is species inapproppiate and that is what causes a good many problems. If you feed a quality raw grainfree diet, you are doing the best you can to keep your cat healthy

Kidney failure usually occurs in older cats. For a normal, healthy cat, you need to feed a well-balanced diet, including enough protein ( this is reduced in kidney formulas) and especially taurine, which is essential for a healthy heart. Feed your cat a good quality cat food and stick with whatever brand she enjoys...and now try to relax and enjoy your cat...don't worry about what might happen in 10 years!

There are certain breeds of cats that were very prone to PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) inheritable through lines. All reputable breeders of these affected breeds are now breeding away from PKD + lines as there are ways to test for this type of illness.

I agree with what Ken has said about kidney disease/failure. It happens mostly to older cats and not so much to younger cats. These are fed low residue low protein diets to ease the burden on the diseased kidneys.

If your cat is healthy, then it needs a well balanced diet and adding a bit of raw food to this is great for your cat. I give one meal of raw a day and it can be either ground rabbit mince or white fish/coley. If your cat (like one of mine) will not eat anything but dry, it's well worth buying a good quality high protein low grain brand.

It can be daunting to begin with as to what and how you should feed raw food, if it's prepacked and frozen just make sure it's fresh, and if raw, it comes from a butchers or grocery store that prep cleanly and on the day.

Good luck!
