Infant Toddler Nutrition?

I'm making a newsletter for my parents at the center I work for and am wondering what parent's would need to know about.

Most parents love ideas on finger foods (9 months and older).
Many parents don't realize that when their toddler eats like a bird it is okay. One of the most useful articles I have found is this one. You could quote it or use it as an inspiration for your own article.

My pediatrician wrote this on the subject of nutrition:
"Parents actually have a lot of control over feeding but only in two areas: When the child eats and What the child has access to eat. The child controls whether or not the eat and how much they eat. As long as the parents do their part and allow the child to do his part, the child's growth will not suffer. Parents who attempt to control how much their chld eats not only find themselves in a futile power struggle but may also jeopardize nutrition. Studies have shown that children who feel any pressure to eat, including subtle pressures such as the old "airplane in the hanger game", will actually eat less and be less apt to try new foods. The "when" of eating is best kept to scheduled meals and snacks at the table. The scheule need not be rigid, but a space of time between eating is important. Most chldren will enjoy eating five or six times a day: three main meals and two to three snacks. If the child shows he is not interested in eating or begins to throw or spit food, no problem; put the food up and the kid down and try at the next meal."

I suggest reading any of Ellyn Satter's books on child nutrition. "Child of Mine, feeding with love and good sense," and "How to Get Your Kid To Eat...But Not Too Much" are excellant books! She agrees with the first poster, the parent controls the What, Where, and When feeding, and the child controls the how much and the if - if they eat at all. Except with infants they control the when as well.
