NUTRITION QUESTION: Recommended Calories per Day?


Do you find that the Recommended Calories per day is grossly overestimated?

yes definitely , In one of my nutrition books it says that for someone of my weight 45kilos , the recommended daily calorie intake is 1760 calories , and then says to add 480 calories on top of that if you exercise that day .

That's over 2000 calories. I have an underactive thyroid and if I was to consume that many calories a day I would be huge .

I think 1200 calories a day is plenty enough for me , and that's with exercise too .

What is your weight , height and age ?
Calorie requirement differs according to your age, sex, BMI and lifestyle. Obivously, people doing labour work require more energy that that required by people with calm, quiet and sedentary life.

Calories required per day :

Men
sedentary work 2300
heavy work 3200

Women
sedentary work 2000
heavy work 2500
pregnant 2500
lactation 3000

Infants upto 12 months 100/Kg body weight.

Children upto 12 years 1000

Teenagers
Boys 2000
Girls 1200-1500

Forget Calorie Counting and buying expensive foods, try this.

yeah i dont suggest a woman to eat 2000 calories a day unless she has a super speedy metabolism i would probably stick to around 1500 calories.

Completely. 2000 calories a day is outrageous... that's like 4 whoppers (guesstimate)

yeah i try the whole day out to meet my required calories but i never succeed

2500 for an average person and under 2000 for an inactive person. not bad.
