Do Venus fly traps feed by heterotrophic or autotrophic nutrition? |
I was wondering what the answer to this question is, any help would be gladly appreciated :) Venus Flytraps are actually both heterotrophic and autotrophic. Heterotrophic refers to any organism that gets energy from other organisms, and since Flytraps can digest and metabolize energy by eating insects, they are heterotrophic. Autotrophic refers to the ability to carry out photosynthesis to get energy from sunlight. Since Flytraps have this feature, they are also autotrophic. Autotrophic nutrition. The answer is both. They are green plants that can make their own food. But, they live in swamps where there is low protein, so they can digest insects and use the nitrogen to from protein. I think it is heterotrophic as it gets its food by eating insects. autotrophic nutrition |
