What is an interesting and up to date topic within the area of Nutrition?

I've got to do a talk at university on a nutrition topic and was wondering if anyone had some sensible ideas!!

The public perception of 'stick thin role models' and how it encourages eating disorders amongst young people; the numerous diets and eating plans that are advertised; how today's lifestyle discourages families sitting down together for a balanced meal; how fast food chains have lost business/gained business from introducing healthy options......I could go on forever, hope one of these takes your fancy.
Good luck
I'm not sure if this is what your looking for but the food pyramid is a little newer and it's a pretty broad topic w/alot of info..

Why quick-loss diets don't work long term, and alternatives that can work.

or Detox and what it is
Not a lot of people realise that nutrition has changed quite a bit in recent years. It used to be just about making sure you had enough of each vitamin and mineral to avoid malnutrition and conditions like rickets (bow legs) and basic illness (like sailors having enough vitamin C to avoid scabies etc). In the past 30 or so years the focus in nutrition has switched towards optimum nutrition. So now we're being careful to include nutrition via diet and supplements that avoid quite specific, sophisticated problems, such as heart attacks, strokes and other artery disease (fish oil and low cholesterol helps here). It's not just about staying alive and avoiding deformities developing in bones etc, it's about extending life and combatting major diseases. Increasingly this will include anti-cancer/tumour approaches. It all goes to show that the whole area of nutrition as science is still relatively new! And it's becoming more and more relevant with our desire to live longer.
Most of the above learnt via NCFE certificate course in Nutrition and Healthy Eating and OU Understanding Human Nutrition course - a good source book for the latter is (Extracts from) Human Nutrition by Mary E Barasi
Phytonutrients/ chemicals are a big topic. Or superfoods.
