How long is a safe time to be on the Cambridge Diet as a sole source of nutrition?

A friend of mine has been on the Cambridge Diet contineuosly for 92 days. She is taking in 440 calories a day using the Cambridge Diet milkshakes/soups/other powder-based food.

I have looked on the Cambridge diet website, and it recommends no longer than 4 weeks. I am concerned that she is making herself ill. She is very emotional.

I have not experience of this diet and would appreciate anyone's help with this.

I have been on this diet for 2 months now and know several people who weigh 300 lbs or more that have been on it for nearly a year! Yes, it is actually recommended that you NOT stay on Sole Source for more than 2 weeks BECAUSE after 2 weeks you should remain on a Physician Monitored Sole Source program so you doctor can continue to monitor you and ensure that you remain healthy and have no underlying medical conditions that might come to light. When I initially went to my physician requesting her blessings to go on the Cambridge Diet she was a bit skeptical but liked the Physicians Data she'd read online at the corporate website. At the time I was 5'6, 200 lbs with high blood pressure (on meds), hypoglycemia that was raging out of control and high cholestorol that was about to be controlled with medications. I honored her wish to return after a couple of weeks. I went in to see her on the 3rd week (and had already stopped Sole Source per my promise to her) and she was absolutely thrilled to see I'd lost 17 lbs, my blood pressure was running 117/67, my cholestorol was PERFECT (LDL and HDL both great) and my hypoglycemia was no longer rearing it's ugly head. In reference to another posted answer to your question (see post above) if hair was falling out and the flu was caught it means one of 3 things: There was an underlying, unknown medical condition. There was an allergy to one of the products such as soy or nuts (the supplements are preservative free) or the diet was not being properly followed. When doing the Sole Source it is absolutely CRUCIAL that all servings be taken each day. Otherwise, you are playing a dangerous game because then your body is not getting it's nutrition and because you're eating too few calories, it can make you quite sick. If your friend is American then likely she is using the Food For Life system. This system requires that 3 servings be consumed per day and if all 3 servings are eaten it provides the body 100% of the necessary vitamins, minerals AND trace elements (like you would find when eating raw fruits and veggies) based on the US FDA guidelines. Food For Life is the American Cambridge product because it's based on our FDA standards. The Cambridge Original 330 is the older, original version of Cambridge that was designed in the 70's in Britain and it's based on Britain's dietary standards. I think nowadays most use the Food For Life regardless of where they live because the flavor technology is more up to date and the supplements just taste better. After seeing how healthy I had become (I also work out daily now because I have so much energy and feel fantastic) my doctor not only told me to stay on it as long as I'd like, provided I strictly follow the rules of the diet and eat my 3 servings per day, but she also said she had discussed and reviewed this diet with the other physicians in her practice and a decision had been made to recommend this diet to all of their overweight patients with health problems. She actually called me from her house a few nights later to get a little more info! Now, after 2 months on the diet, I have lost a total of 27 lbs and feel better than I've felt in years. I have the energy to play with my daughter, I'm not as irritable and I no longer suffer from health issues OR depression. If your friend is moody chances are very good that she's just having food cravings and is trying to deal with it. Most people who go on the Cambridge Diet are morbidly obese and behaviour modification, and learning to develop a new relationship with food, is very much a part of it. This diet is just easy enough to produce fast and effective results, but just hard enough to stick with to provide you with a real feeling of accomplishment. With all that said, I would say don't worry about your friend! Just be sure she's checking in with her physician every now and then to have bloodwork done and to ensure there are no unknown medical conditions. In the more than 30 years since it's inception and over 2 million users, no one has ever died as a direct result of using the Cambridge diet. Oh, and FYI, in case you find this data on the web like I did, there were some erroneous reports in the mid 80's of patients in Britain suffering from severe health issues as a result of the Cambridge Diet. There was a huge media hype over it but it was later found that these patients were on a liquid protein diet and not the Cambridge Diet. The Cambridge Diet is absolutely NOT a protein diet. It's a nutritional supplement and was designed to be used in exactly the way your friend is using it. Hope this helps to ease your mind! I did a LOT of research before I began this diet because I too had fears over utilizing a 440 calorie per day diet. I'm a lifelong believer in it now and intend to continue using the supplements on the Lifetime Maintenance Program even after I reach my ideal weight. Cambridge costs less than the monthly $50 liquid vitamins I'd been taking and I feel better with my Cambridge supplements! Source(s): www.cambridgediethealth.com

depends on how fat she is. If she is 400 pounds or more, then probably for the rest of her life.
Get her off it now!!! Me and my Mum went on it for 96 days and my Mums hair fell out and I got flu really bad. GP said it was down to lack of proper food and nutrition.
Fad diets take off the weight fast but your friend will probably gain back the weight and more. These kinds of diets are very unhealthy and should be avoided at all cost. To lose weight you have to make a commitment to total lifestyle changes. If you know nothing about nutrition, spend your money on nutrition counseling, stay away from fast food and join a gym. If you think your friend is ill get her to a doctor as soon as possible.
