Why do somepeople fingernails and toenals turn to a brown or black color..is it a nutrition thing.? |
I alking about the color changes in the fingernails to an old crusty looking nail Black Nails (Melanonychia) or dark longitudinal streaks See Nail Abnormality for other longitudinal striations Medication Side Effects Cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) Excessive Fluoride Supplementation (Fluorosis) Melanonychia striata Common in dark skinned persons Spontaneous or second to trauma or Chemotherapy Benign Nevus Uniform brown longitudinal streak localized to nail Subungual Melanoma Chronic Renal Failure Distal nail bed discolored brown Source(s): http://www.fpnotebook.com/der148.htm... Could be nutritional, you're right -a lack of biotin, zinc or magnesium can all give rise to this. lt could also be a fungal infection affecting the root of the nail. The nail should be pulled out,and the person should take anti-fungal medication. Some people (especially dark-skinned negroes or lndians) have a dark brown normal pigmentation in their nails. This has no medical significance. Some people with chronic liver problems also have dark spots on their faces, palms and nails. |
