What can we all do to stop this from happening?
In America and the Uk. Any country that has lots of convenience stores, not necessarily fast food stores, will add to the ease in which people can add weight to themselves.
Add to that, countries where public and private transport is so easy that the most walking you do is from the car into, and around, the supermarket, and the lb's are slipping on.
As to what we can do, the answer is not a lot.
Educate the children that you can grow a few veg at home, that they can cook a meal from scratch and get a better taste than a 'ready meal'.
Use your local butcher, greengrocer, and baker.
Serve plenty of veg instead of potatoes, lean meat instead of fatty, grill bacon and sausages.
If you've got the room keep a couple of chickens to provide eggs, our hen house is about 9ft by 4ft and we have 6 chickens and a cockeral giving 2 - 3 eggs a day normally but a couple of small bantems could live in a space the size of a large kennel. |
