Are parents incouraging the weight of their child or in fluencing the obesity gene in the family? |
Are parents incouraging the weight of their child or in fluencing the obesity gene in the family? Not sure exactly what you are asking. Parents play a tremendous role in the diet and level of activity their children get. Carrying the "fat" gene does not mean that one is going to be fat, it does mean that they will have to be more mindful of their diets and maintain a healthful level of physical activity. Parents always encourage the food habits of their children. Mostly by what is served at family meals. Assuming that the genetic tendency of parents is not predisposed towards being fat or obese, then there is not a genetic reason for children to be fat. That was the case in my family when I was a child. My parents and siblings were not fat. I was however very fat (over 200 in 4th grade and over 450 when I finished high school). My parents did not encourage my weight gain and always made sure that the food that was served was healthy and balanced. In my case, I simply liked to eat a lot and enjoyed being fat. I was well adjusted and educated and happy. My parents would discuss my size with me openly and honestly but they knew I would eat a lot because I liked to and better I do it with good food than junk. They made me aware of the issues and made sure I was not socially adjusted. I loved being the fattest kid in school. Some parents may encourage bad eating habits - mine did not. |
