Obesity and pregnancy. Is it safe to lose weight while pregnant.?

I am what they call clincally obese. I am 5'8" and weigh 246 lbs. I am about 9 to 10 weeks along in my pregnancy and now I've lost 10 pounds without even trying, I am starting to show and my clothes feel tighter. But the weight loss is concerning. Is there anyone out there that might be able to help me or is in the same boat I'm in. Please help and please be nice.

I was of average height and weight when I first got pregnant and I lost weight during the first month of my pregnancy! I believe I dropped about 10 pounds before gaining weight again. I think this is quite normal. During your first trimester it's common to lose your appetite or have morning (all day) sickness which can lead to weight loss. As long as you keep your regular checkups with your doctor and make sure you're taking care of yourself, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. I gained a healthy 43 pounds by the end of my pregnancy! The weight loss at first caused me and my baby no harm at all. :o) He's now 11 months old and healthy/happy as can be!

Good luck to you and CONGRATS on your pregnancy! Take care! :o)

actually a lot of women who have some extra baggage lose weight before gaining it with the baby.dont worry

talk to your doctor!!!!!!!!!

i lost weight with all my pregnancies i lost a total of 14 lbs with this pregnancy. dont worry as long as ur eating good getting the proper nutrients the baby will be okay. ur are one of the blessed to loose weight in pregnancy but dont worry the weight will come back i am 35 weeks now and i just started gaining weight at 32 weeks

as long as you're eating properly and healthily for your baby, and doing some mild exercise (maybe like a half hour walk) then you should be fine, just don't TRY to drop massive amounts of weight while your pregnant because that can be harmful and just talk to you doc each time you see him/her about everything, like how much weight you've gained/lost and your exercise and what you've eaten. You should be fine

Always talk to your doctor.

I've been told that losing weight in the first trimester is normal because of morning sickness, loss of appetite, etc. However, women aren't supposed to try and lose weight on purpose. Women who are of normal weight are expected to gain up to 20ish lbs., women who are overweight are expected to gain up to 10ish lbs.

well i would say keep the weight wihile ur pregnant becuz still think ur baby is feeding off of the nutrients in ur body. and i don't think ur tth over weight. some over weight pregnacies are dangerous and the doctor tells them to lose weight. if ur doc. hasn't told u to lose weight then you don't have to. :) but do wut u think is best!!

good luck wit ur baby :)

I'm obese and pregnant too. My doctor told me to try to gain fifteen pounds if possible. However, I've been losing weight too, and at my last appointment the doctor said if I loose a little, and the baby is fin its nothing to worry about.

thats normal i lost wieght in the beginning to..if your anything like i was i was sick and never hungry at first.now food is my best friend and ive gained 10 pounds

I do suggest speaking with your doctor. However, it isn't completely uncommon to lose weight in the first trimester - especially if you have morning sickness. However, if you are losing weight and find yourself completely unable to hold down solids and liquids there could be concern about possibly having Hyperemesis. Either way, your doctor will be able to better answer whether or not the weight loss is safe in your case. Be sure to take your prenatal vitamins with food everyday, stay hydrated and take care of yourself. Doing so and following doctors orders is best for both you and your baby.

Losing weight in the first trimester is common no matter what weight you are. I lost fifteen lbs my first pregnancy, and lost around 10 lbs this second pregnancy....but you catch up later on :)

If you are overweight, just eat sensibly and try to walk as much as you can. Eat lots of fruits, veggies and healthy proteins like eggs and chicken. Try to stay away from sugars and fatty foods as much as you can, but don't deprive yourself completely. If you are really concerned about it, have you doctor help you :)

Good luck!

One of the causes may be that you are eating better now that you are pregnant. Not that your diet wasn't good before the pregnancy but a lot of the time we start to eat more nutritious foods for our babies sake and it can make a difference to our bodies as well. I also had a friend who had to go on a diabetic diet while she was pregnant, she was quite a bit overweight when she got pregnant and started dropping a lot of weight just due to cutting out all the sugar and extras. It also depends on whether or not you are going through a lot of morning sickness. As long as you are taking care of yourself it is okay. If you start to feel weak or any major changes including excessive weight loss, please talk to your doctor.

I would eat sensibly and make as many healthy food choices as possible but pregnancy is not the time to restrict calories or take up a strenuous exercise routine and diet. There's always time to do that after you baby gets here healthy and safe.

I am overweight and I got morning sickness really bad and lost weight. well once that tapered off I ate right and exercised and I have only gained 10lbs. if you are over weight to begin with they really only want you gain 15 to 20lbs. at least that is what my dr. wanted. I haven't even tried to do anything to not gain weight either. But since i have only gained10lbs and I am due in 10days, I will more than likely lose weight in the end. I think that if you eat right and exercise you should be fine. If you have any questions or concerns just talk to your doc. they will be able to tell you the best way to go about it and set you up with a nutrician as well. Good Luck and Iam sure everything will be ok.
