What do Greeks think about obesity?

Like, what is the overall perception of it? Do people think it's ok or do they think it's gross and stands for poor American values?

Older Greek people went through famine and war so most of them still think that is happening. They feed and feed their grandchildren because they think that they are starving or too thin.
You must realise that many Greek grandparents are raising children when their parents work so they have freedom over what the kid eats. I see it every day. This is one of the reasons I work from home. My father in law thinks my 7year old is too thin. She is normal, chubby cheeks to proove it. If I were to leave it up to them to feed her she would be huge. It has nothing to do with Americans. I am half American and my father in law who is Greek thinks that I starve my kid!

Greek kids are the fattest in Europe (latest official findings)! Greeks don't think about obesity and many find it highly amusing when their child of 5 has to wear clothes for a 15yr old! I know as I own a kids clothes shop and face this everyday - As I am who I am .. I have to ask why they don't help their child o avoid diabetes and worse ... but they laugh away my silly comments 'paidi einai!'
My concern is with children as it's the fault of their parents/ grandparents (also lack of any activity - due to the demands from school work and the parents need to produce doctors and architects) and in a few cases medical - Obese adults make that choice themselves (unless medical - very rare).

Greeks need to be more educated on not only obesity (especially in children) but also in drink driving /smoking (and passive). But I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime!

PS - I think you are American to use the word 'gross' so you must know that not all Americans are obese - a high % - through poor diet - unfortunately this poor diet has been exported to many countries around the world - Young Brits are now overweight as well - out of 20 friends when I was young only one was a little chubby. Hubby (Greek) says he only remembers 2 fat kids in his town in Greece 30 yrs ago!

ok have u ever been to America? i am sick of people thinking that Americans are fat! I personaly do not know any fat person and i do live in this beautiful country.

i don't know if i would go as far as to say that Greek kids are the fatest in Europe because i grew up in a village on the island of Crete & none of my friends were obese! However as greek people age they tend to gain a few lbs. Although I really don't know anyone who is obese, i do know that the women in Greece have curves ( not like us f***ing bean poles in california) and that the men have meat on their bones! To be honest i think they have a healthier body image than we do in America! :D
