How to fight obesity in our country? Any ideas?

I'm writing a college level paper on fixing the obesity problem in the United States and any idea or suggestions would be appreciated.

We all have to pay high health insurance premiums and with the majority of health problems today are directly related to obesity I think this is a problem worth looking at. If everyone trimmed down, health insurance would cost everyone less, plus everyone would be better off.

And what happened to the idea of a fat tax on unhealthy food and using the proceeds to fight obesity? I thought this was a great idea. Heck we tax the crap out of cigarettes and alcohol, why not unhealthy food? Or employers could be forced to impliment an excercise program, some already do.

Should this be a state or federal gov't problem? Who would you even address about fixing this problem on a national level? I'm in the U.S.

Please only helpful positive feedback, I'm looking for real constructive answers to solve this problem, not peoples opinion on fat people.

I don't even know if this could be a federal or state problem. People have the right to be fat and eat unhealthy food. People have the right to smoke and drink alcohol even though those things are also unhealthy. Don't get me wrong, I think the obesity problem is, in fact, a problem. But we can't make people lose weight and be healthy, they have to want it. And some people are perfectly happy being overweight.

Get rid of video games, cell phones, cars for teens, and larger yards then most builders are allowing for!!!

More parental involvement instead of video games and vegging out.

Who actually knows exactly what any one person should ideally weigh?
Its debatable.
As is what temperature should our planet be? We really do not know.

personally I think it's impossible. people are too lazy today to exercise regularly, apparently everyone is to busy to make an effort to be healthy. the 2nd and largest problem is that people today care too much about how foods taste and little about how they effect the body in the short and long term.

unfortunately you can't fight ignorance and laziness, free will is not a good thing for a lot of people.

* you also have to realize that health care is a multi billion dollar business that employees a lot of people. it will continue to grow and grow as the population continues to grow. if the federal government really and truly cared about the health of American people cigarettes a known carcinogen would be made illegal. but big tobacco is also a multi billion dollar industry. it's all about money, always has been and always will be. it's one of the unfortunately aspects of our capitalist society...
