Why do you think obesity is becoming such a problem in the United States and throughout the world?

Why do you think obesity is becoming such a problem in the United States and throughout the world?

laziness. Americans have become lazy. We exercise less, move around less.

because as technology advances to make our lives easier. Inventors invent to make certain tasks easier. But, since these tasks are now easier, it takes less effort to do them and we spend more time not doing anything because we can.

People eat too much processed foods.

High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Prepackaged food-that's the root of all evil right there.Between fast food and prepackaged food, prepackaged causes more obesity than all fast food put together.

Too much fast food, processed food that isn't good for people and instead of people eating the 2000 calorie intake, one sitting of a McDonald's meal can be more than half of that....So obesity comes from the lack of people knowing how bad fast food really is for them, not just here in the US with the fast food, but simply the lack of education in healthy food vs. fattening foods.

Because un-healthy over processed food is cheap. Good healthy food is not.

Because it's affecting society as a whole; in the work force, in the public realm and in the individual's consciousness.

= to much intake for < out take , simple, what doesn't go in can't go on

I don't know about the rest of the world, but obesity in the US is a major issue because food is in abundance & the food contains extra calories. Consuming more calories than what the body expends makes ppl more obese. Instead of eating a diet of pure, wholesome foods coming directly from the land, Americans eat a diet of packaged, processed, and refined foods, microwaved & fast foods!
Other factors can be hormonal disorders, genetics & marketing (enticing advertisements).

Fast Food

we've created a glutton society
entitled to everything

but weight isn't really the big issue
the big issue
is the media/medical portrayal.

we just look at it much more negatively

it doesn't cost more to be fat though for businesses (some companies were firing fat people b/c of obesity and saying it cost the company too much) the truth is hiring an obese person actually costs less
b/c they on average 10 years earlier so less medical expenses over time.
(not that that's a good thing)

People eat too much, have become lazy, and the new "love yourself no matter what you look like....it's not PC to call people fat" movement makes it OK and acceptable to be unhealthily large.

And yes, I did say "unhealthily" :-)
