Has obesity been clasified as a diesase?

i know the main causes of obesity are your DNA, and yea thats true, and overconsumption. Those cause MOST of the obesity in the US. But, i also know there are certain neurological disorders which prevent people from knowing when they are full and always wanting food, and some virus which is believed to cause massive weight gain. There are also some other disorders i know that make you fatter, but its pretty uncommon.

bearing that in mind, is obesity a disease, or rather, does the government consider it a disease, or certain forms of it.

i can't find the FDA's official stance on their website.

and FYI i know eating is a behavior and can be controlled to some extent.

You seem to know everything... is that to make you feel better? Our answers wouldnt be believed by you even with a link.

"i know the main causes of obesity are your DNA"

not true. you go to other countries and they dont have nearly as many overweight people as the US, and the US didnt have nearly as many overweight people 30-40 years ago. genes havent changed much since then. and thats exactly the thinking our country has that makes the problem worse. yea some people genetically might be more prone than others but in general, poor diet and not excercising compounded by overconsumption are the main causes of obesity in the US. in my opinion letting people beleive its OK, and that they have a disease rather than a correctable lifestyle issue will just make it worse.

i have a feeling it kinda varies organization to organization as to whether they consider it a true disease or lifestyle issue im not sure what official stances are.

Do you walk, run or crawl a mile a day? Then you will get fat, then you will get fatter.

If you walk two miles a day, you may actually get less fat.

Get a pedometer, put it on your waist. Walk at least 3000 steps a day.

If you want to eat fries and drink sodas, and not walk 3000 steps a day, then you will get "the disease" called Fat ***.

On rare (less than 5%) occasions, it may be metabolic. Get bloodwork done. Otherwise, you're just fat.

If eating is psychological, so is smoking, drinking, and swinging dead cats around the yard. I would talk to a Professional.

Actually, most cases of obesity are directly tied to clinical depression and food addiction. And both of those are infact designated diseases.

It is being considered for inclusion among disease conditions.
Opinions as you mention vary widely; so the controversy continues......
