Good was to stop obesity?


Japan has institued a law that your waistline must be 33.5 inches for men and 35.4 inches for women. People could be fined if they exceed it. Is this a good or bad way to have people slim down?

I agree with you who say fat people aren't selfish and don't know when to stop. As an overweight teenager I tihnk it's a horrible because something overweight is in your genetics. I hate when people harass,even though they don't know what they are talking about . I have my whole lunch able at lunch doing this to me and I can't wait to one of them gets my size.

Fat people do not have poor self control, they are not being selfish (perhaps a little hedonistic at most), and they already have to face prejudice in health care. Why screw up their lives any more? I think they should be offered more incentives to stay healthy, instead of punishment. I'm sure society punishes them enough anyway.
I've been slim all my life, and I know I've always had to face prejudice about my body - "Are you anorexic?" "Do you ever eat?" "Eat something before you blow away!" I know some might like these comments, but to me they're hurtful and unfair. These are the kind of things that breed hate and jealousy among different body types.
Why can't people just be happy with how they - and others - look?

That is bad, it could produce unnecessary stress.

I am not a doctor. Here is what I suggest.

Buy the book, "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips. He lays out an exercise and eating plan for you. Your diet and exercise are both important when you are losing weight or just trying to stay healthy. In his plan, you eat a certain portion of food, 6 times a day. That sounds like a lot, but it isn't. You work out 6 days a week. You actually get ONE FREE DAY a week. You can eat anything you want and you don't have to exercise on that day.

For eating, he gives you a chart to help plan your daily meals. He makes it very simple for you to set goals.

For exercising, you do weight-lifting exercises 3 days a week and aerobic-type exercises 3 days a week. He gives you a chart and shows you the different types of exercises to do that help the different areas of your body. You don't have to do all the exercises In your weightlifting exercise chart, you put in your choice of the exercise you want to do that affects each part of your body. All of these exercises do not require lifting weights. These exercises are for strengthening and improving your resistance. You can buy small weights for some of the exercises. You will see what I am talking about when you get the book. This part of the exercising is very important because you are strengthening your muscles and the more muscles you have, the more calories you will burn. :)

As for the aerobic-type exercises, you will want to exercise your heart for at least 20 minutes each time. As you get stronger, you will be able to exercise longer.

Well, this is what I recommend. Sometimes changing one little thing can make all the difference.

well, it's a good thing to limit how big ppl can be to make sure ppl aren't eating to death, but in other ways this can be a horrible thing.

The reason if someone is within those inches.. or is a little more than the limit.... they could end up losing weight the wrong way and hurting themselves.


I guess it all depends on how they go about it... to bad the USA couldn't do this.... within reasoning of course

FINALLY!! They should ALSO do this in America!!! They should fine the overweight just like they fine us for speeding, not paying taxes on time, or any other crimes (gluttony should be considered a crime like drug or alcohol abuse). If we have to pay a fine because we can't control ourselves and overeat, then this might force us to lose weight!!! AMERICA IS THE FATTEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!

it probably would be affective but its reall NOT GOOD. it's really bad becuase sometimes it's genetic to be obese. so for some people its is extemely hard. so its really, inmy opinion, a bad way.

I disagree with any law that goes against the U.S. Constitution sooo, no. BUT if society was a facist dictatorship/beuracracy which it is quickly starting to become. Then yes this is a great way to make people slim.

It could work. A few companies in the united states will not insure people who have a high BMI or who are considered over weight. If the obese people of japan are not happy with the new laws they can easily protest.

I think its a decent idea. But i would do it on BMI. Some ppl are just naturally big (not fat, just large framed).
Although, Japanese are pretty small people so maybe those measurements work for them.

seems to impede on some rights, and the punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime.
