Should Obesity be considered a disease or just being LAZY?

it's not me.... I'm 6'3 210lbs... I work out and swim 4 days a week . it just a general question.

Obesity is not a disease, but it is a handicap if it prevents you from living a whole and fulfilling life; such as, your mobility may suffer.

This is why you should start to work on this situation as soon as you can once you realize it is you - you want to start while you can still get around somewhat..before you're confined to your bed.

It could be either. It is insensitive and ignorant to assume all obese people are lazy. Only an idiot would actually think that. Many people are genetically predisposed toward obesity, and some people even have thyroid problems and other biological conditions that cause them to be overweight. Factor in psychological causations such as depression, low self-esteem, bi-polar, trauma syndroms, and similar mental issues, it is easy to see why many people have weight problems. Calling them lazy would be no different than telling someone who has brain cancer that they got it because they were lazy. It's ludicrous.

That said, there is no doubt that some people would avoid obesity if they simply put down their tv remote, got outside, and walked to a restaurant and ate a salad.

IMHO there are those who become obese because they are genetically disposed to it and there are those people who just eat too much and never burn any of that energy off.

Historically very few people were obese and genes don't spread quickly, so I'd say almost all of it's down to laziness.

Cars, TVs, computer games, fast food, office work, one-stop supermarkets... Everything's set up to stop us using any of our own energy.

OK this is for myself. I don't know about anyone else but for me gaining 35+ pounds in a year and a half it's just lazy. I know I love to eat. I used to go to the gym 4-6 times a week. I had my first child and that's my excuse which is no excuse. So for me it just being lazy...

P.S today I start a new. I joined a gym and will be going starting tomorrow!!! Lazy no more

Obesity is a disease in which excess body fat has accumulated to such an extent that health may be negatively affected.[1] It is commonly defined as a body mass index (weight divided by height squared) of 30 kg/m2 or higher.

Obesity is closer to disease. Its not your height or weight. There are people who appear to be plump but aren't actually that heavy.
Anyways its your BMI that matters.

Obesity should be considered as a disease. It will eventually lead to blood pressure, rheumatic pain etc...

it is not a disease and it does make you lazy. It does take 9 years away from your life. It is something serious
